What to do in Rio de Janeiro?
DAY 1
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at our hotel, you're ready to explore this wonderful city.
Copacabana Beach, one of the city's iconic landmarks, is located in front of the Rio Othon Palace. Taking a dip in the water, strolling along the famous boardwalk, and exploring the beachfront craft market will help you understand why Copacabana is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. You can also visit the famous Colombo confectionery shop located in Copacabana Fort, another tourist attraction in the city. Entrance to the Fort costs R$10.00 and includes access to the museum, the cannon dome, and the beautiful view from there. For lunch, the Skylab restaurant, located on the rooftop of the Rio Othon Palace, is an excellent choice. The restaurant offers incredible views and great options for lovers of fine cuts of meat.
The MAM – Museum of Modern Art is less than a 20-minute drive from the Rio Othon Palace. The museum is located in Flamengo Park, next to Guanabara Bay, and is a great place to visit in the afternoon. Back at the hotel, a delicious drink in our Sky Lounge will help you relax after a day full of adventures.
DAY 3
After such busy days, how about a walk along the shore?
From lifeguard post 3 to 10 (the Rio Othon Palace is located between lifeguard posts 4 and 5), the route stretches for over 5km, and you'll discover the coastal area most famous for its appearances in soap operas, newspapers, and films. Leme, Copacabana, Arpoador, Ipanema, and Leblon are the places you'll visit on this tour.
If you'd like to take a trip to the city center, you can visit AquaRio, the largest marine aquarium in South America. Tickets cost R$140.00. There's still time to explore Lapa, stroll up the Selarón Steps, and take that traditional photo.
To enjoy the sunset with a privileged view, you can take the Santa Teresa tram and enjoy the moment at Parque das Ruínas (Ruins Park).
You deserve to end your day with a dinner prepared by the executive chef at Skylab, which will be under renovation from April 2024 and available on the 3rd floor of the hotel. The expected reopening date is the end of September 2024.
DAY 4
Now that you know the most famous beaches in Rio's South Zone, how about expanding your horizons in search of more deserted beaches in another part of the city?
After enjoying a delicious breakfast at the hotel, head out to the following beaches in the city's West Zone: Prainha, Grumari, and Praia do Secreto. These are only accessible by car. If you don't have your own transportation in the city, we recommend ordering a ride-sharing service. The ride usually costs less than R$50.00 to Grumari, the furthest of the three beaches. The sunset at Prainha is usually crowded, but worth the visit.
The beaches offer excellent food options at the kiosks, but if you'd like to visit the largest shopping mall in the country, head to Barra Shopping and enjoy the many restaurant options there.
Another tip is to enjoy the Pantanal region of Rio de Janeiro, taking a boat trip to Ilha da Gigóia, where there are many restaurants and the views are breathtaking.
